Juilliard Opera
Juilliard Opera is the Marcus Institute’s advanced opera training program. Each year, Juilliard Opera produces three fully-staged opera productions featuring primarily Artist Diploma in Opera Studies, Master in Music, and Graduate Diploma students in principal and cover roles; however, undergraduate students are eligible to be cast in principal and cover roles as appropriate. Juilliard Opera has also co-produced opera performances with the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.
Exposure to as many musical and dramatic perspectives as possible is a hallmark of the Juilliard Opera experience. In order to prepare students for the professional world, the Marcus Institute engages a new artistic team for every opera, and seeks to bring world-renowned conductors and directors into the students’ educational experience. Recent Juilliard Opera conductors include Alan Gilbert, Speranza Scappucci, Stephen Lord, Anne Manson, Jane Glover, and Emmanuel Villaume. Recent directors include Stephen Wadsworth, Peter Kazaras, James Darrah, and James Robinson.
Juilliard Opera, a program dedicated to the education and training of future generations of singers at Juilliard, is supported by the vision and generous lead funding of the International Foundation for Arts and Culture and its Chairman, Dr. Haruhisa Handa.
